COVID-19 – The Great Equalizer
Your race doesn’t matter, your looks don’t matter, your title doesn’t matter, your occupation doesn’t matter, your race doesn’t matter, your gender doesn’t matter…and I could go on and on. So many things that our society takes note of simply does not matter. And the villain is a silent serial killer. If this were a horror movie and COVID-19 was a mammoth monstrosity, it would merely eradicate anyone of us it chose.
The only thing that matters is that you’re human.
It puts us on equal footing. It makes us realize we’re not that different. We have something in common.
We’re all vulnerable.
And I think that makes us stand back and take stock. Take stock of our lives. Take stock of what’s important.
Our families are important. Our friends are important. Our communities are important.
This common enemy has provided us with a rudder to steer us through these raging wild waters. The dark forest of how to get a test, when to get a test, where to go to get a test, negotiating stores with empty shelves, how to live our lives now that an unseen beast is stalking.
We are concerned with taking care of others that we don’t even know. We are aware that our actions can cause a situation whereby another human could become infected and die. We are willing to sacrifice so that doesn’t happen. The rudder that steers our lives isn’t power and money.
The rudder that steers our lives is love.
Love is the best defense against this villain.
Just like always.
