One thing I’ve always prided myself on is my work ethic. I’ve always worked hard, and hard work does enable you to achieve goals. Thanks to hours and hours of practice, I was able to reach a high level in ballet. I worked hard during my career, achieved goals, and made a good name for myself in multi-billion-dollar companies. I wrote a novel while working a high-level job. My children both work very hard, are climbing up in the world, and I’m very proud of them.
But I think so much attention is paid to the value of hard work, that we sometimes forget to rest. Not only are we short on sleep, we are high on stress and on blood pressure too. There is value in some down time. There is value in rest. There is value in listening to birds sing and in stopping for a moment to appreciate the flower you see on your walk.
It relieves stress, even if just for a moment. It opens you up to new observations, new ideas, new thoughts.
And perhaps one of those new thoughts may help you in your future and in all you strive to achieve. At the very least, it will give you a moment of peace. And that is always something to be valued.
